A/C Replacement Specialist in Baton Rouge: Should I Worry If My A/C Is Leaking Condensation?
One of the functions of your home’s air conditioner is to remove humidity from the air, so noticing some condensation is normal. However, this should not cause enough condensation to leak. In many cases, condensation leaks are caused by lack of upkeep and fixing them is very simple. Here are some of the
common problems
that cause condensation leaks and how to fix them.
- Your condensations drain is rusted, broken, or clogged- This is typically the most common issue. Fixing this involves cleaning the line if clogged or patching or replacing the line if it is damaged or cracked.
- Dirty filters - Your air conditioner’s filters need to be replaced when they are too clogged to allow proper airflow. This causes humidity to build up around the unit, creating excessive condensation. If your filters are more than one month old they should be replaced.
- Problems with the evaporate pan - There is a pan that underneath the unit that catches excess condensation and allows it to evaporate. If this pan becomes damaged, condensation can overflow resulting in leaks.
- Problems with the evaporator coil - The device that evaporates water from the pan is your evaporate coil. These can freeze if your unit is not functioning properly, and the melting of the water will cause a leak. In other cases, the coils can be too dirty to function properly. Check to see that the coils are free of dirt and debris and that they are not frozen over.
- Low levels of coolant - Low Freon levels will also cause condensation. This creates extreme temperature differences between the unit itself and the air around it, causing moisture to condensate on the unit. Low Freon levels are cause by leaks and can be very harmful to the air conditioner itself. You can refill the coolant and attempt to fix the leak, however in many cases a coolant leak is a sign that you may need to replace your unit.
- Installation issues - If you have had recent services or repairs done to your air conditioner, there may have been an issue with the installation. If you think this is the case, call the last service provider and voice your concerns with them. They will likely send out a technician to investigate the recent job performed to search for errors that may have been made.
